To the north expedition of the captain X. Stansberi has led to opening of one more way through Rocky mountains and has given a plentiful new material about the Big Salty lake. Having acted on June, 1st, 1849 from the Fort-livnuort on the river Missouri, Stansberi Green has proceeded usual pereselencheskoj road through Southern pass to the Fort-bridzher on the river Blekforks-inflow of the river.

' From here,-informed Stansberi, two roads which converge again at Humboldt's river-disperse. The old road reaches the river Ber, proceeds downwards on its valley through Soda-spring to the Fort-hall [on the river Snake] and from here lasts in a southwest direction to Humboldt's river... Other road has been spent to 1847 by a Mormon community and withdraws immigrants to located in a southern part of a valley of Salty Lake to a Mormon city, forcing them to recede from the initial direction more than on the whole degree on the south. They make up for this degree, going directly on the north to a crossing through the river Ber near to northern end of lake, whence the way follows in a northwest direction before crossing with old road from the Fort-hall. I would like to find out, whether there is no shorter road, than these two, and whether it was better to go directly to the top part of lake or to that point where the river Ber gets into its pool from valley Kach through ridge Vasach '.

Stansberi has successfully consulted with the problem though itself considered, that road followed spend a little to the north of that route to which it followed.

Having left the group most part in Salt Lake City, Stansberi has started road research on the Fort-hall. Here again it has become successful, having shown, that between these two points ' it is possible to create magnificent wheel road '. On a return way it has begun research of deserts to the West from Salt Lake City where has returned in November. During its absence its assistant Gannison has made shooting of the big territory between the Big Salty lake and lake Utah on which coast it has moved with the geodetic party.
