David Thompson's work had many things in common with work Fidlera, Harmona and the Milling cutter and, undoubtedly, had still much bigger value. Thompson so travelled much, and its shootings differ such perfection, that the part of its cards remains till now unsurpassed. It has arrived on service of Company Gudsonova of a gulf in 1785 and has begun the activity as the geodesist in 1789-1790 when has made exact definition of geographical co-ordinates of a Cumberland-house. In 1790 it has made shooting of the river Saskatchevan to its mouth then has proceeded usual by to the river Hejs and Gudsonova a gulf. In 1792 and 1793 it has made shooting of the river Nelson and a part of the river Churchill, and within other years of the service he has put many works in Companies Gudsonova of a gulf on area studying between Cumberland-House and York-Faktori, and in this territory has done and has photographed set of routes.
In 1797 Thompson has passed to service to the Northwest company and on service at last has made the most considerable travel. Its first travel on service of this company is remarkable the scope. It left a Cumberland-house on June, 27th, has gone to I drag Gran-Portazh, near the western end of the Top lake which has reached approximately a month later. Leaving with Gran-Portazha on August, 9th, Thompson has returned to lake Winnipeg, has crossed it, and also lake Manitoba, has reached lakes Vinnipegozis and has risen upwards on a river Suon valley. After that it has made shooting of the rivers Assinibojn and Red-Dir to their sources, and on November, 28th has acted in a direction to the river Missouri. Last day December it has reached ' last village of a tribe mandan ', and in this occasion we find the following record in its travelling magazine:
' We have spent thirty three days to make travel on which at good weather there would be enough ten days, but I have had an opportunity on road to the river to define width of six and a longitude of three various points. In total we have passed 238 miles ' 1.
