In 1835-1844 R.Shomburgk has carried out extremely important research of the British Guiana and the next areas. This area was already more or is less known and as a magnet, drew travellers those days when there were searches of Eldorado. In XVII and XVIII centuries in it a number of researchers, including La-Kondamin has visited; however, according to Humboldt, to the south and to the east from Esmeraldy (a city in territory the Top Orinoco Venezuela) the area three times exceeding Spain on the area where ' it has not been made any astronomical definition ' laid. Research of this area also has put itself problem SHomburgk. In 1835-1838 it investigated the rivers Essequibos and Rupuiuni, having opened sources of the first of them. It has made also transition to the river Rio-Branko and investigated laying to the east from it mountain chain Karuma.
The Autumn of 1839 had been spent expedition on the West for the purpose of studying of mountains Roraima. SHomburgk has reached Esmeraldy, almost that has opened sources of Orinoco and has returned on the rivers Kasikjare, negrr and Branko. These routes, the general extent almost in 5000 km, it has connected territory of Guiana with the areas already investigated by Humboldt.
In 1841 SHomburgk investigated delta Orinoco and has made shooting of some the small rivers flowing between it and Essequibo, and next year has reached sources Takutu on southwest suburb of present British Guiana. During last travel SHomburgk undertaken in 1843-1844 has made transition from a valley top Rupuiuni to. To the river Korentajn (the British Guiana nowadays forming east boundary) also has reached on this river the sea. Collected SHomburgkom botanical and zoological collections on all area are a valuable part of funds of the British museum, and its all-round supervision in the British Guiana have laid down in a basis of all subsequent researches of this colony.
