Central afrika. Opening krapfa and rebmanna
you are: Central afrika
To the north of this area, in an interval between opening Krapfa and Rebmanna and the first travel across East Africa of J. Thomson, it has been made very little, short of rather careful studying of area around Kilimandzharo Dekkenom in 1861-1862 and that during this period John Kerk has actually established the British protectorate over Zanzibar. Further lado to notice, that some travellers among whom first of all it is necessary to mention Burton, Speka, Stenli and Kemrona, crossed this area during longer travel.
In 1878 the London geographical society has sent expedition for district studying between Gift-es-salaam and lake Njasa for the purpose of search of a convenient way to internal areas. The head had been appointed the Whale the Johnston which has died soon losle of how expedition has left coast. Nachalstvovanie expedition has passed to twenty years' young man-dzhozefu Thomson. It has very successfully consulted with the problem: has passed by northern end of lake Njasa, investigated absolutely unknown district between this lake and Tanganyika and has opened lake Rukva. After that it has proceeded on the western coast of Tanganyika to that place where from it follows Lukuga which has found ' the fast and insuperable river ', has established, that it gives a drain to waters of lake and that if description Stenli was correct, since time of its travel there were some changes. After short travel to Udzhidzhi where it has met the missionary of the Mansion, Thomson has crossed again lake in the western direction and has tried to reach the river Congo, but has been stopped by resistance of natives. Thereof it has returned to lake, has made swimming along east coast and from the southern end has crossed lake in a northwest direction to Tabora, whence has returned at coast. It has visited many-was perfectly unknown areas and has subjected to their scientific research that grants to it the right to be called as one of large researchers of Africa.
