Very small successes have been made in southern boundary regions, short of researches in the neighbourhood with cape Guardafui, where worked Majls (1871) and Grejvs (1879). In 1877 Frenchman Revual has tried was to pass on route Dekkena, but its efforts have appeared vain, and it was limited to studying of some parts of coast Somalia. In the following arrival to 1878 Revual has managed in general to familiarise with district near to cape Guardafui but as its interests laid in the field of trade development, it has collected few exact data. In 1880 it has returned again to these edges, this time as a part of a scientific expedition organised by the French ministry of national education, but it managed to visit only mountain area Karkar. It has collected the big material on the next districts, has roughly defined geographical co-ordinates of some points and promoted the big improvement of a card of all territory.

As to southern Somalia in 1884-1885 he was visited by English expedition, to which structure brothers Jamss, and also Ejlmer entered. They wished to pass from Mogadishu to Berbera, but have reached only a city of Barry in 345 km from a starting point of their travel. In total they have covered about 650 km on district, until then is almost perfect the unknown.
