The history of the general research of Southern Africa for the considered period comes to the end with three long travel. Long stay in the country bechuanov has given A.Andersona (1864-4880) very many for knowledge of east part of this area, and also Kalahari desert. During the same period, with 1872 on 1892, F.Selous during the hunting expeditions repeatedly and in all directions crossed all area between lake Ngami and Zambezi, and in 1887 and in 1888 came for this river; most of all attention it has given to the country mashonov (Mashona), and in 1891 has made transition therefrom to Beira at east coast. In 1884 on the countries Matabele and Mashona V.M.Kerr who has published their first detailed description has made travel.
Since 1884 the colony the German South West Africa has become theatre of intensive geographical activity. Visible participation in this work have accepted A.Shenk, G.Shnits, G.Pole and F. M.Shtapf. In 1884 SHnits, leaving the Whale bay, has made travel to northern direction to the river Kuneni and in east-almost to lake Ngami. Two next years it has spent to areas Ovambo and on suburb of Kalahari desert. SHnits has collected a lot of a valuable botanical and ethnographic material in the areas visited by it. In 1885-1886 in geological researches in the field of Namakva was engaged SHtapf, and in area between the Whale bay and the river Orange-shenk. In 1888-1889 SHtejneker investigated the most part of area Damara and has given its first exact card.
In 1882-1893 geodetic parties under the guidance of William Morrisa have made a triangulation of the Cape colony and Natal. However wide geodetic works during this period were not undertaken, and in this direction up to the termination of English-burskoj war has been made very little.
