In 1858 Livingstone left in the second travel. It has received appointment to the post of the consul of area of Zambezi and has grasped with itself a number of people which should help it with research and area operation. The major role among them was played by John Kerk.
' Our purpose,-wrote Livingstone, there was not an opening of any fabulous miracles, and acquaintance with a climate, natural resources, local illnesses, natives and their relation to other world, that we and did with that especial interest what should test, reflecting about the future, the first white people at work on the continent which history only begins '.
Some travel upwards and downstream the rivers Zambezis Have been made and is wider, in which course the lake Shirva has been opened.
' At last,-has written down Livingstone,-at about noon on September, 16th, 1859 we have opened lake Njasa. Its southern end lays under 14°25! ju. sh. And 35°30! Century d. In this point the valley has about twelve miles at width. On both parties of lake huts tower, but the smoke from a burning grass limited our field of vision '.
In other communication Livingstone has added concerning this lake: ' As to a direction of this lake it lasts almost absolutely precisely from the north on the south. Anywhere we could not find out that big western bend which is represented on all cards '. Strictly speaking, opening it was not, as Portugueses at least knew by hearsay about lake existence though as it appears from words of Livingstone, knew is very inexact. Some months after Livingstone have visited on coast of lake Njasa, A.Rosher has reached its northern coast. Rosher has passed from Kilvy, thereby having added work and Dekkena and Livingstone; soon after that it ' has paid with a life for the passion to travel '.
