Fourth and last stage of research of Alaska has begun in 1895 when this work had joined geologo-prospecting management. Opening next year gold on the river Klondike has led to huge flow of selectors of a profit. Made two years after similar opening in area near to Nome even more has glorified the country which was earlier in neglect. Geologo-prospecting management could not work quickly enough and had not time to satisfy requirement for geographical data. Employees of this department, on the help which in the first years have come military topographers, have started the regular studying of this country which till now still have been not finished. About half of Alaska it is covered by topographical shooting, but work is necessarily spent slowly and costs much; now the government tries to add land shooting by air photography *. It it is started in the northeast Alaska till now remaining not investigated. Southeast part of the country well-known, and it is a little probable, that in few not studied areas of the western Alaska any especially large new facts concerning the surface device would come to light.
