the United States. The big pool
you are: the United States
The way back has been made through the Big Pool. Fremont aspired to define a site of some lines of a relief, including Mary's lake and the river of Buenaventura in which existence he still trusted. In the beginning of December it has reached lakes Bottom Klamat, has crossed the river Klamat and by December, 25th left to lake Uorner. To the middle of January, already being on the river Carson, he has decided to make under the pretext of a lack of stocks transition through mountains to California. Transition through the mountains covered with snow has been interfaced to the big dangers, but Fremontu has had the luck, and on February, 20th, 1844 it was already at ridge top; soon after that it has reached that point where then there was fort Zuttera, and now there is a city of Sacramento.
From Sacramento where Fremont has got necessary to it for expedition of animals, it has gone upwards on a valley San Joaquin on the south, round the southern end of mountains and further on trading road to Santa Fe. In the beginning of May it was already in Las Vegas (Nevada), and in the end of a month - on the lake Utah accepted by it by mistake for southern continuation of the Big Salty lake. Here again, instead of going the blazed ways, Fremont has gone directly to depth of mountains Vasach and Uinta, investigated mountain ridges at verhovev the rivers Northern and Southern Platte, having reached to Pueblo only in the end of July.
' the Report ' Fremonta about its expedition represents an important document. Fremont has described sharp distinction between western and east parties of continent, has given the description of pools of the main rivers and has stated some thoughts on the Big Pool which part it has visited.
' pool Existence, he-wrote, it-is represented to me doubtless, it is necessary to define only its sizes and contents. It cannot be less than four hundred or five hundred miles, that lengthways, that across, and its basic part should lay in the Top California so if to draw border on 42nd parallel it, possibly, will snip off, only a slice from its North country. Its internal part remains almost absolutely unknown. It consider as desert, and judging by that I saw, I agree, that it is, of course, fruitless; but, on the other hand, where it is so much water, there should be and oases. Data on existence of the big river and the big lake can appear exaggerated but where such weights of snow lay, there there should be water modular lakes or sand absorbing a moisture '.
