the United States. The big salty lake
you are: the United States
In 1850 as soon as weather has allowed, works have been renewed. Stansberi has spent studying of the Big Salty lake whereas Gannison has made shooting of its east coast. By August, 28th they were ready to an exit in a way back. On September, 10th they have acted from the Fort-bridzher and new have by passed through mountains. Expedition went, in general, in east direction on northern suburb of mountains Medisin-Bou and the southern end of mountains Larami to the river Northern Platte. ' Distance from the Fort-bridzher to Ford-Larami on present road,-informed Stansberi, it is-is equal to four hundred eight miles; if to go on new road from the Fort-bridzher to east foot of mountains Blek-Hils (to a point which is on equal with Larami distance from a fork of the river Platte) the distance is reduced to three hundred forty seven miles... . It is not necessary to forget also, that distances given by us are calculated with the help odometra without the discount at the expense of a natural sinuosity of district and have been received during the extremely superficial rekognostsirovki in the absence of exact knowledge of district and without any attempt of an establishment of a line on which there should be a road... I assumed to continue in the beginning rekognostsirovku from riverhead Lodzhpol before its merge to the river Platte, and therefrom or on a watershed between this river and the river Rinabliken, or on a valley of last; and both in that and in other case we would go on till now not investigated territory. Unfortunately, circumstances have developed so, that I could not execute the intention '.
With Stansberi there was an accident which has deprived to its work capacity. However it has made useful and exact research of the important territory and, besides shootings, has brought collections on geology and natural history of the areas studied by it. The section of its report devoted to Mormon colonies is interesting. Stansberi has found, that Mormons were the able-bodied, disciplined and hospitable people, and attributed a considerable part of success of the enterprise of their help.
